Knife
A tiny blade in tiny paws, swinging with the confidence of something much bigger.
The Knife is a basic melee weapon available to Conker in the main action-adventure entries of the franchise. It serves as one of the simpler close-range options in his arsenal, sitting below heavier tools like the chainsaw or sword in terms of power but offering quick, reliable strikes when firearms aren't practical or available.
As a red squirrel in a world of pirates, outlaws, and absurd set-pieces, Conker's reliance on a small blade underscores the series' comedic tone—his tiny paws gripping a kitchen-style knife to take on far larger opponents is a recurring visual gag throughout the games.

Lore & Background
In the pirate-soaked world of the Conker series, the Knife occupies a humble but essential niche. Where Conker can grab a rocket launcher or a chainsaw to level entire rooms, the Knife is what he reaches for in tight corridors, on ship decks, or in moments when the bigger guns simply won't fit. It is the weapon of improvisation—picked up from a bar counter, a kitchen shelf, or a dead pirate's belt.
The item's design leans into the franchise's irreverent humor. A red squirrel, barely larger than the blade itself, grips the handle with both hands and swings it with exaggerated, cartoonish arcs. There is no pretense of realism; the Knife hits with the same comic weight as a comically oversized mallet, and the animation sells the absurdity of a rodent treating a paring knife like a samurai's katana.
Across the two main action titles, the Knife functions as a reliable fallback. It never replaces the heavier weapons in a player's rotation, but it keeps Conker from being helpless in close quarters, and its presence in the world—often tucked into the most mundane locations—reinforces the series' theme of a small, scrappy character out of his depth in a world built for larger, meaner creatures.
In Their Own Story
The deck of the *Bastard's Revenge* smelled of rum and rust. Conker crouched behind a barrel, his tail twitching, and stared at the two cutthroats patrolling the starboard rail. His pistol was dry. The rocket launcher was still wedged in the rigging three decks up. In his left paw, however, was a short, dented knife he'd swiped from a galley table an hour ago.
He lunged. The first swing caught the nearer pirate under the chin; the second caught the second one in the shoulder. Both went down in a tangle of boots and curses. Conker wiped his snout on his sleeve, sheathed the knife, and muttered, "Bit small for the job, innit?" before hopping toward the crow's nest.
Reader's Guide
The Knife is a basic melee weapon in the Conker action titles. It deals a quick, single-hit damage in close range and is generally the least powerful weapon in Conker's rotation, sitting below the sword, chainsaw, and firearms. It is useful in tight spaces or when you've lost access to ranged weapons.
In the game world, Knives are typically found in indoor or domestic locations—kitchens, bar counters, ship galleys, or tucked behind furniture. They are not rare; more often than not, one is within a few meters of a checkpoint or a side-area entrance. Picking one up is automatic: walk over it and Conker will grab it, swapping out whatever he was holding.
The Knife appears in Conker's Bad Fur Day (GameCube, 2004, Rare) and its reimagined sequel Conker: Live & Reloaded (PS3/Xbox 360, 2008, Yuke's). It is not a featured weapon in the puzzle-platformer Conker's Quest (Wii U, 2014, Airtight Games), which uses a different combat system.
A small design note: the Knife's attack animation is noticeably faster than the sword's, rewarding quick successive taps, but each hit carries less damage. In Live & Reloaded, the presentation is slightly more polished with updated textures and a sharper swing arc, but the core feel remains the same—fast, light, and comically undersized for the squirrel wielding it.
Did You Know?
- The Knife's swing animation is faster than the sword's, making it viable for rapid close-range taps despite lower per-hit damage.
- In Conker's Bad Fur Day, the Knife is often found in the most mundane locations—kitchen counters and bar tables—reinforcing the game's 'small squirrel in a big world' comedy.
- Conker grips the Knife with both paws in its attack animation, a visual gag emphasizing how small the blade is relative to his character model.
- The item does not appear in Conker's Quest, which replaces traditional weapon combat with a puzzle-based system.
